Italy takes the low road to popularity
Twenty years ago, when Spain was the firm favourite with British holidaymakers looking for their own place in the sun, Italy’s property market was considered unknown territory, offering mostly properties in need of a great deal of renovation.
Two decades on and Italy’s property market has changed dramatically, now offering many modern, low level and low density developments compared to many other tourist destinations, which have created vast urbanisations.
However, as many areas of Italy remain relatively undiscovered by British buyers, the country still offers comparatively affordable property prices. With flights now readily available from airports such as Gatwick, Stansted and Manchester, property agents claim that overseas buyers are increasingly looking to the Italy for good investment opportunities.
Calabria, Italy’s southern-most region, where the ‘toe’ of the Italian ‘boot’ meets Sicily, is one such undiscovered area. With the increase of direct flights to the area and property prices significantly lower than old favourites Spain and Portugal, it could become one of the more popular spots in Italy’s property market.
Eddy Crompton, director of Realpoint Property says, “Realpoint is now offering a number of new developments on the Calabria coast that tick all the right boxes in terms of purchase price, investment potential and location. In fact, we would go as far as to say that our Calabria properties offer the best value for money around and expect Calabria to become one of the most successful property investment regions in Italy.”
Realpoint Property is currently marketing developments in six different locations in Calabria, both coastal and in-land. The developments range from studio apartments to three-bedroom villas. Property prices start from £30,000 for a studio apartment and £100,000 for a three-bedroom villa.
For example, Residencial Amusa is set in the town of CAULONIA MARINA overlooking the Ionian Sea. The apartments comprise a terrace, reinforced entrance door leading to living/dining area, American kitchen, two bedrooms and one full bathroom. Prices start from approximately £50,000.
Alternatively, one could enlist the help of Linda Travella of Casa Travella, who is this year celebrating 20 years of service in Italy’s property market.
“As a company we only sell properties in Italy,” says Travella. “We feel that we can offer an exceptional service because we specialise.”
Among the Italian property developments currently being promoted by Casa Travella, Metaponto is a residential village situated about one kilometres from the sea in Basilicata, with each group of apartments having its own pool. Properties are fully furnished with two bedrooms and a bathroom, living room, kitchen, parking space, air conditioning and a veranda of 35 square metres. The properties are priced from £94,000.
