Alpine town to benefit from improved transport links

Although many people prefer some fun under the sun for summer, there are many who prefer a cooler ski holiday on the piste. Nowadays, there are several ski destinations to choose from. Several ski destinations in Europe have benefited from the recent increase of low cost airline routes. In the past, Ski holidays were exclusive for those who can afford, but the increase in budget airlines have opened up the market.

The new St Pancras International Terminal in London may also positively affect ski tourism. Expected to be completed later this year, the station will become the launch point for Eurotunnel journeys to France. Trains will travel at faster speeds than ever before. On ski season, the station will host a weekly direct service to several destinations like Bourg St Maurice in the Alpines.

Bourg St Maurice is easily accessible with good transport links through coach to many other ski destinations in the alpine area like the Val d’Isere, Tignes, Vallandry, la Rosiere, La Plagne and Les Arcs. French outfit MGM developer is taking an interest on the town. It presently has two projects scheduled for construction in the town. Around 45 apartments will be made available on leaseback and 63 for purchase.

Leaseback is a scheme that makes it possible for property buyers to avoid paying VAT on the property if they lease it to an approved French property management company for 11 years. The company in return pays the investor a guaranteed fixed income every month.

Although peak season income will most likely be lower compared to that on the open market, the property will at least earn a steady income during the off-season.

According to a spokesman for MGM, Richard Deans, in an article in the consumer website Easier, MGM’s move to Bourg St Maurice was influenced by the development scheduled for the area. “Now is a good time to buy,” he says. “Massive improvements planned for the town mean that its popularity - and demand for accommodation - will soar in the years ahead.”
