Britain’s First Green Estate
The planning of the first green estate in the Docklands area of East London in Britain has the whole nation excited. With this comes hope in the improvement of several areas in the country: residents are then able to grow their own food in purpose-built community greenhouses; power their electronics and gadgets with tree branches; fertilize their rubbish and reuse in specially created recycling bins.
The estate has several distinct features: natural power generation through the use of turbines and solar branches; tree branches that will be burned to aid heat and power the estate – these branches are collected from around the east London area and are given to the community; rainwater to flush toilets and water the community plants. Roof terraces f in each flat will also be present for growing vegetables, along with the flats own cycle club and car pool.
The London Development Agency is part and parcel in supporting the development. The agency also gave some grants in subsidizing the project. The flats can be used in two ways: one for social housing and the other part is sold for commercial rates. Work is scheduled for next month.
The flats are planned to be made from “green” materials for the improvement of the environment – sustainable wood, reclaimed concrete and locally produced gravel to lessen the carbon footprint and to alisn with the aims and objectives of the project.
So, when looking for a house that is carbon-neutral and with a good investment in its head, look no further.
