Why Cyprus is attracting Britons in increasing numbers
British investors who are looking for property overseas could possibly be interested in looking at Cypriot acquisitions. The island is becoming increasingly popular with Britons – both as a holiday resort, second home or for a buy-to-let investment opportunity. British people reportedly make up the largest expatriate community on the island.
So what is it Cyrpus that is so attractive to them? First, there are the familiarities. Despite being located in the Mediterranean, Cypriot life bears some similarities to life in the UK. The legal system, for instance, is largely based on the English model and there is a similar method of land registry and conveyance in operation.
Cypriot people drive on the left hand side of the road the same as British drivers do and most speak a good standard of English. The banking system is also based on English methods and the currency is the (Cypriot) pound. In fact, aside from the good weather and cheap cost of living, the British traveller could almost be forgiven for thinking they were in a home away from home.

Turkey ‘presenting good opportunities’
Following reports that Cyprus is presenting good buy-to-let market opportunities, some investors are interested to hear of equally positive news from its neighbour Turkey. According to a research conducted by foreign investment guide Amberlamb, Turkey has potential for both growth of property prices and growth in demand for rental property.
According to Amberlamb director Rhiannon Williamson, Turkey is a better market for British investors than some others that have recently been proved popular. She says the region certainly has more going for it in terms of potential for price growth and demand for rental accommodation. However, she also cautions potential investors in a Turkish property to exercise caution.
According to Williamson, build quality is a serious issue that needs to be considered. The location of the property, as with any property investment, is of prime importance in terms of long-term attraction as well. However, provided the right property is obtained, there should be no problems with generating rental income or obtaining a good resale price, she claims.

Cyprus: the rising star of the east
Brits who are now looking forward to retiring abroad are no longer favouring western Europe as before. Those who want to expand more their horizons and move further in the East are settling in Cyprus. This is according to a leading property expert.
Majority of retired Brits usually head to the traditionally strong ex-pat communities of Southern France or in the east and south coasts of Spain, which have been favourite tourist destinations for UK holidaymakers for decades.
However, although properties in these regions are usually still cheaper than the average price of a UK home, these are both mature markets and do not represent the dramatic capital gains that were seen back in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Brits head to Cyprus for retirement holidays
It comes to no surprise at all. Present trends show British retirees opting to settle in east European-Mediterranean countries rather than the traditional places of Southern France and Spain. Which eastern European country tops the list for British retirees? Cyprus.
Property experts noticed that in the last five years, British retirees prefer heading to the east of Europe – in this case Cyprus - because of its affordability and seeing the best returns come alive in their property investment. Nonetheless, retirees who are more conservative prefer to stick to established property markets in western Europe.
Aside from avoiding financial risks, retirees look at the social welfare or basic service packages they can avail in their chosen retirement destination. Call it being more discerning and prudent but some retirees would like to be secure in their retirement age.
